2011 Canadian Tour Dates

Jennifer Yeo

I’m from originally from Toronto and have a BA in International Development and work in Human Resources. I worked with MSF in Sierra Leone as a Human Resources and Accounting Administrator.

I hope to share these experiences with others at this years Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City.

Isabelle Chotard

I live in Quebec City where I work as an emergency physician; I also work in Nunavut with the Inuit populations there. I have been on 3 missions with MSF: working in a hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo; working with Refugees and Internally Displaced Populations in Chad at the Darfur border; and travelling with mobile clinics in Nepal.  I like to move around the world to meet new people and share their culture. I never stay home for long!

Indu Gambhir

I am a physician with 40 years of experience. My main areas of practice are emergency and family medicine with a focus on stress management, medico-legal and public health issues, and I am interested in disaster response and stress experienced by first responders and physicians. I was lead physician in the management of evacuees during the Akwasanee conflict, and have worked with MSF since 2005, in Liberia, South Sudan, India and Kenya. I also assisted Inuit communities in Canada during the H1N1 crisis. Currently I am involved in Inuit health and am volunteering with the Coordinator Peer Support Network.

Heather Thomson

I’m a nurse from Ottawa who worked in the Cree First Nation of Attawapiskat, ON for 3 years before heading out on my first MSF mission in 2003 to Bukara in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the Lubumbashi area. I’ll be completing a Masters in Nursing + Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Ottawa in August 2010  I then hope to head out on another mission!

My photo was taken moments after my team crossed the finish line at the first Canadian Oxfam Trailwalker 2009. 100 kms walk!

Hassan Valji

Needing a break from the corporate world in 2005, I went to Darfur, Sudan as a logistician/administrator at Kalma Camp; an IDP Camp with 130,000 residents.  Since returning, I have resumed my career as a Process Improvement and Strategy Consultant and have recently launched my own company, putting solar power on commercial and industrial buildings in Ontario.

Fiona Turpie

I am an anaesthesiologist from Hamilton Ontario, and joined MSF in the summer of 2009. I spent four months in Sri Lanka in both the emergency mission in Mannik Farm and the long term hospital in Point Pedro in the Northern Province. After returning home, I joined an emergency team in response to the earthquake in Haiti and am shortly off again to Haiti. When not in the field, I spend time with my dog, my friends and my family… usually watching soccer!

Diane Rachiele

I joined MSF in 2005 and have since worked as a Financial and HR Coordinator (Finco) in Burundi, Indonesia and Cote d’Ivoire. Over the past 18 months, as Finco Coach, I have been on several missions in Chad, Pakistan, Nigeria, India, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Visits to Refugee and IDP camps include Kalma Camp in South Darfur and Menik Farm in Sri Lanka.

Delphine Beulne

I am originally from Côte d’Ivoire, where I studied medicine, and am now living in Canada. During Côte d’Ivoire’s military-political crisis in 2002, the country was split into rebel and governmental zones and saw a major influx of NGO’s doing relief work. I joined MSF’s team in 2003 to assist with their efforts among war-affected populations

David Decossy

My professional background involves planning piping systems. Growing up on a farm enabled me to develop manual and organizational skills.  Now, I live Montreal with my wife and we are waiting for our first baby. I worked with MSF in Niger where I was a logistician/administrator.  I also helped with the construction of a hospital and a well near the capital, Niamey. It was a great personal and technical experience for me. Every day, I continue to share these experiences with different people and try to open their minds to Africa’s reality.

Chantal Gauthier

I’m from the Montreal area and am now working as a head nurse in Varennes, Quebec. I worked with MSF in the Democratic Republic of Congo (North Kivu, Rutshurum) where I was a managing nurse in charge of the hospital for all the nursing, training and recruiting.

I think of myself as Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw and have been borrowing shoes from Rose, a Congolese nurse who is helping me realize this.
